DiveTXXL
Stainless Steel Dive Watch
Role: Industrial Design, Branding, Assembly
Timeline: Designed Summer 2023, Manufactured Fall 2023, Launched January 2024
DiveTXXL (pronounced “dive tool”) is a limited edition dive watch designed, engineered, and hand assembled in San Francisco.
The watch uses a Seiko NH35 automatic movement, a well-made workhorse movement which self-winds with the movement of the wrist.
The stainless steel case’s soft curves, chunky lugs, and domed crystal take inspiration from high-pressure diving equipment, evoking a sense of rugged functionality in the ocean’s depths, while also feeling comfortable on the wrist. The monochromatic silver body and dial accentuate the central brand mark and painted second hand. The X logo is also debossed and enameled on the crown, accentuating the watch’s primary touchpoint.
I worked directly with manufacturers in Guangzhou, China to produce the watch’s custom case, dial, hands, and straps in the second half of 2023 and the online store launched on Jan 1, 2024. Each watch is hand assembled in my home office in San Francisco. Assembly consists of installing the dial and hands on the movement, before installing the movement and sealing the case. Each watch is fitted with a custom light grey nylon strap, and packaged in boxes stamped 1-100.
DiveTXXL is the first timepiece by TXXL.supply and is available for purchase at the link below. New colorways and sizes are in development.
